Working Time Directive

The UK has held firm and resisted to pressure to accept the removal of the maximum 48 hours. A meeting of the EU's Conciliation Committee was unable to resolve differences between the European Parliament and member states over whether to retain the opt-out or not, but talks are expected to be reconvened to bridge the gap between Member States and the European Parliment.

Working Time Regulations - Update

From the 1st April 2009, The Working Time (Amendment) Reulations 2007 will increase the statutory minimum holiday entitlement to 28 days or 5.6 weeks.

Does this apply to your business?
Well it could do, if you currently give your employees 4 weeks plus Bank Holidays, then you don't have to do anything. The 5.6 days or 28 days takes into account the eight bank holidays. If you don't, then make sure you do from April 2009 and remember to let your employees know by issuing a new employment contrac...
